Solo accomplishments in a game where teamwork is necessary are quite a feat.
The idea of soloing anything that requires 10 to 30 people to complete raises eyebrows when it happens. Mionee, who has soloed content as far back as Wrath of the Lich King, has soloed Gul’dan on Normal difficulty on a 943 ilevel Vengeance Demon Hunter. Mionee goes into great detail into how he did it, including his legendary setup and talent setup. Throttling down 1.04 billion (with a B) hit points is not something one person can do alone—but Mionee has proven that the work of 10 to 30 individuals can be done alone.
“This encounter would be pretty simple if it did not have an enrage timer, however, I can safely say it is unbeatable with current DPS. Gul’dan himself has 1.04b HP, while enrage happens at 12 minutes. That’s around 1.4 million DPS even disregarding phase 1 where he’s immune to damage,” Mionee said. The video below is a recording of the complete kill.
One of the other difficulties of the fight is the spawning of the Eye of Gul’dan, which increases in damage per tick and duplicates itself if it is not killed fast enough. The boss enrages in 30 minutes, and therefore enraged eyes have a 900 percent damage buff, which can tick for about 2.5 million damage per second, per eye. This creates an even bigger quandary for players who wish to solo current expansion raid bosses.
One of Mionee’s advantages? The Demon Hunter happens to be a very mobile (and beefy) tank that can mitigate magic damage, which also happens to be what Gul’dan relies on. “Either way, enjoy the kill! This took 1 hour and 9 minutes in total, however, the fight truly begins at the 42:30ish mark, so that’s more of a 27-minute fight,” Mionee said, saying that while it is an extremely difficult task, it is doable.
