It was has been an impressive year for Sony announcing this week that they have sold over 50 million PS4 units since the consoles' launch in November of 2013. Over 10 million of those in this year alone as the company reported sales figures of about 40 million units in May of 2016.  In total, there have been 369.6 million copies of games sold since the consoles' launch. Which works out to about 7.39 games per console. The list of PlayStation Network's top downloads reveals which games dominated digital game sales on PlayStation.

Psyonix's soccer chaos Rocket League leads the pack with the most downloads of any title on PSN on PS4. Battlefield 1 followed in second place and the franchise secured three of the top 20 places for PS4 and two of the top 20 for PS3. Minecraft, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and The Division rounded out the top five places for PS4 downloads. The newest installment of Call of Duty ranked very well compared to other top performing titles this year despite contributing to Activision's dramatic stock fall this year by missing sales estimates. It is not surprising to see The Division ranking so highly as the game set records for Ubisoft when in launched in May. Somewhat surprising is that the breakout hit Overwatch did not rank higher. Edged out by the top five entries and Grand Theft Auto V.

PlayStation exclusives Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us Remastered came in near the bottom of the list but that does not mean they did not perform well. Uncharted 4 has sold 8.7 million copies this year, not an insignificant number for a title sold exclusively on a single system. It is also a significant jump over the last three in the franchise which sold approximately 5 million, 6.6 million and 6.7 million respectively. Notably, Final Fantasy XV also made the list despite it only being released on November 29. Here is the complete list of the top 20 downloads for PS4 and PS3 on the PSN in 2016:
