A new job posting hints that an Overwatch sequel or spin-off might be in development.
Blizzard posted a new job on their career site. According to the job posting, “Knowledge and understanding of the Overwatch universe” is a recommended talent for the job. The job is set to begin in summer 2018, which may place the earliest release date of the yet-to-be-announced game in late 2018 or early 2019. The release date of this unknown game could even be later, considering Blizzard spent 17 years without any new IPs between StarCraft and Overwatch.
An incubation department is generally a department that heads up future projects. Sometimes, these projects become full-blown games. Overwatch incorporated many elements of the canceled “Project Titan” that was expected to succeed World of Warcraft. Other times, they just become ideas or concepts that never come to light. In essence, an incubation department can either be the start of something awesome or a graveyard of ideas.
No new games have been announced since Overwatch, and only the World of Warcraft expansion is expected to be announced at BlizzCon. Therefore, whatever the incubation department is working on is generally a huge question mark that could lead to fans asking, even more, questions or making more speculations about what Blizzard is working on next.
What could this new project be? Blizzard has done an MMO, a card game, a MOBA, a first-person shooter (FPS), dungeon crawlers, and real-time strategy (RTS) games. There is a possibility that this could be a fighting game or a single-player game that has to do with Overwatch lore, although nobody will really know for sure unless Blizzard themselves confirm what the job posting is for.
